چکیده

The possibility of electron attachment to the valence 3 state of CO is examined using an ab initio bound-state multireference con guration interaction approach. The resulting resonance has 4 symmetry; the higher vibrational levels of this resonance state coincide with, or are nearly coincident with, levels of the parent a state. Collisional relaxation to the lowest vibrational levels in hot plasma situations might yield the possibility of a long-lived CO

Tunneling spectroscopic analysis of optically active wide band . . gap

Tunneling spectroscopy has been used to detect the photoexcitation of charge carriers in the wide band-gap semiconductors, ZnO and cubic SiC. Because the process is energy sensitive, valence-toconduction hand or defect charge transfer transitions may be selectively excited and detected with the scanning tunneling microscope. Two types of transitions were detected which change the tunneling resp...

The role of excited Rydberg States in electron transfer dissociation.

Ab initio electronic structure methods are used to estimate the cross sections for electron transfer from donor anions having electron binding energies ranging from 0.001 to 0.6 eV to each of three sites in a model disulfide-linked molecular cation. The three sites are (1) the S-S sigma(*) orbital to which electron attachment is rendered exothermic by Coulomb stabilization from the nearby posit...

Dissociative electron attachment to unstable molecules and slow fragmentation of metastable molecular anions

Recent experimental investigations of dissociative electron attachment to unstable molecules and free radicals are reviewed along with observations of metastable negatively charged ions. Measurements have been made with a time-of-flight mass spectrometer in Belfast and also, for metastable ions, with a double focussing twin field mass spectrometer in Innsbruck. Electron attachment to unstable C...

Fragmentation dynamics in dissociative electron attachment to CO probed by velocity slice imaging.

Complete dissociation dynamics in electron attachment to carbon monoxide (CO) have been studied using the newly developed velocity slice imaging (VSI) technique. Both kinetic energy and angular distributions of O(-) ions formed by dissociative electron attachment (DEA) to CO molecules have been measured for 9, 9.5, 10, 10.5, 11, and 11.5 eV incident electron energies around the resonance. Detai...

Valence Virtual Orbitals: An Unambiguous ab Initio Quantification of the LUMO Concept.

UNLABELLED Many chemical concepts hinge on the notion of an orbital called the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital, or LUMO. This hypothetical orbital and the much more concrete highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) constitute the two "frontier orbitals", which rationalize a great deal of chemistry. A viable LUMO candidate should have a sensible energy value, a realistic shape with amplitud...
